BCS Standings: Florida State Seminoles Send Statement, Stay at No. 2

The Florida State Seminoles do not have an “impact” game on their schedule over the final month of the regular season (and possibly even in the ACC title game) but they have still found ways to impress and stay on track for the BCS National Championship game. This week was no different as they tattooed a message onto the Idaho Vandals, hanging 80 points on the scoreboard in a blowout win, and maintained their advantage at No. 2 in the latest BCS standings.

There was mild concern that with the schedule getting so soft late in the year, Florida State would struggle to impress voters down the stretch. But with outings like they had against the Vandals on Saturday, FSU has no reason to worry about impressing. They were dominant from start to finish and played with an edge to them that is sure to leave an impression on the human voters of the BCS while maintaining their edge in the computer rankings as well.

For now, the Noles remain on track to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide in Pasadena for the BCS National Championship game this January. The Ohio State Buckeyes are waiting just in the wings as well in case either team ahead of them trips up in the final two games of the season. But FSU continues to control their own destiny. As long as they keep winning the games ahead of them, the BCS standings should work themselves out in the Noles’ favor.

While many may argue against the value of “style points” when it comes to the BCS rankings, there’s no denying that they have helped Florida State defend their spot at No. 2 in the BCS standings. Can they continue to impress and punch their ticket to Pasadena this January?
