BCS Standings: Ohio State Buckeyes Finally Settled at No. 3
The Ohio State Buckeyes have still yet to lose under Urban Meyer after blowing out the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday but their position in the BCS standings has been far from solid as they have continued to lose ground on the No. 3 position as the season has gone on. But thanks to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Ohio State is now in total control of the next spot up for the BCS National Championship game in the latest BCS standings.
Coming into the week, the Baylor Bears were closing the gap on Ohio State and had pulled to just .0013 in the BCS standings for the No. 3 ranking. With the Bears in a marquee game against then-No. 10 Oklahoma State, it was easy to argue that a win for Baylor would be enough for them to jump Ohio State this week. All the Buckeyes could do was take care of their own business against Indiana (which they did emphatically) and then sit and watch Baylor in their night game in Stillwater.
What they saw, though, will be sure to make Meyer a slightly happier head coach on Sunday night. Baylor was completely overwhelmed on the road and got blown out which left no opposition for Ohio State in today’s BCS rankings for the No. 3 spot heading into the final weeks of the season. They are still helpless to catch the Alabama Crimson Tide or Florida State Seminoles for the top two spots in the BCS without help, but at least they won’t be looking over their shoulder for another undefeated team waiting to jump them.
Baylor’s loss is Ohio State’s gain in this week’s BCS standings. Can they get one more undefeated team to fall down the stretch to find their way into the BCS National Championship game?
