Rant Sports Week 14 Official College Football Top 25 Rankings
Rant Sports College Football Top 25: Week 14
Week 13 of the college football season and we are now in the final stretch of games. With two weeks left for a select few teams, we should know the conference and conference division winners this week. The conference title games are starting to shape up nicely and it looks like the national title game will be decided quite soon -- barring any major upsets this week, which could very well happen.
There were a few big games in week 13 that ended in blowout fashion -- something that no one saw coming. The Baylor Bears traveled to face the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the matchup would determine if the Bears would jump the Ohio State Buckeyes in the BCS standings, but they no longer have to worry about that as they were demolished by the Cowboys on the road.
In another top matchup, the LSU Tigers hosted the the high-powered Texas A&M Aggies in what looked to be a game that would turn into a shootout. However, the LSU defense held Johnny Manziel and the Aggies in check, leading to a 34-10 beat-down. The Tigers rebounded nicely from a loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide just a couple weeks ago.
Don't forget about the upset that no one saw coming as the Arizona Wildcats took down the Oregon Ducks in impressive fashion, blowing them out 42-16. The Wildcats came into the game as underdogs and the Ducks still had hopes of making a BCS title appearance. However, the Wildcats left as serious contenders and the Ducks left as seriously upset. What a game in Arizona.
Take a look at how the rest of the Top 25 fared last week and who made this week's top 25 as voted by our college football experts here at Rant Sports.
25. Cincinnati Bearcats (9-2)
Cincinnati started the season 3-2 and have reeled off six straight victories, setting up for a huge matchup with the Louisville Cardinals in week 14.
Last week: NR
24. Duke Blue Devils (9-2)
Duke is one of the surprises in the nation and it looks like they will be playing for a conference title.
Last week: NR
23. USC Trojans (9-3)
The Trojans have been dominant since USC fired Lane Kiffin. Losing one game since the firing and upsetting Stanford has been a recipe for success.
Last week: 22
22. UCLA Bruins (8-3)
Losing at home to the Arizona State Sun Devils dropped UCLA in the rankings in a bit.
Last week: 14
21. Texas A&M Aggies (8-3)
Texas A&M lost a big one to the LSU Tigers in week 13. Johnny Manziel looks like he's out of the Heisman race as well.
Last week: 10
20. Oklahoma Sooners (9-2)
Oklahoma won a tough game at Kansas in week 13 and will be looking forward to a huge matchup with in-state foe Oklahoma State in week 14.
Last week: 21
19. UCF Knights (9-1)
Central Florida keeps on winning as the Knights took down Rutgers in blowout fashion on Thursday night.
Last week: 19
18. Northern Illinois Huskies (11-0)
Northern Illinois might be getting punished for playing an easy schedule -- even though they are unbeaten. A spot in a BCS game is not out of the question, though.
Last week: 15
17. Louisville Cardinals (10-1)
Louisville is setting up for a huge week 14 matchup against the Cincinnati Bearcats that has BCS implications written all over it. They are still upset about the loss to Central Florida two months back.
Last week: 18
16. Wisconsin Badgers (9-2)
Wisconsin would be in a completely different position if it never lost to Arizona State in controversial fashion two months ago. With a 9-2 record, the Badgers will likely be contending for a BCS bowl -- especially since the Michigan State Spartans may make room for them if they lose the Big Ten title game.
Last week: 20
15. Arizona State Sun Devils (9-2)
Arizona State won a huge game against the UCLA Bruins on the road in week 13, ensuring themselves a spot in the conference title game.
Last week: 23
14. Fresno State Bulldogs (10-0)
Fresno State and quarterback Derek Carr are severely underrated. The senior quarterback is one of the best in the nation with nearly 4,000 passing yards, 39 touchdowns and just three interceptions while the Bulldogs are 10-0 and rolling.
Last week: 13
13. LSU Tigers (8-3)
The Tigers won a big game over Texas A&M in week 13 and that might ensure them an at-large spot in a BCS game. However, there is still a lot of football to be played.
Last week: 17
12. Oregon Ducks (9-2)
Oregon's title hopes have now been completely dashed with a tough loss to the Arizona Wildcats in week 13. Marcus Mariota had a tough game and it looks like he's finally out of the Heisman race.
Last week: 5
11. Michigan State Spartans (10-1)
Michigan State is on fire, winning seven straight games and capturing the Legends Division crown. They will be making their second appearance in the Big Ten title game in its three-year existence and will have won 10 or more games in three of the last four seasons under Mark Dantonio.
Last week: 16
10. Stanford Cardinal (9-2)
Stanford took care of business against a struggling California team in week 13 and will likely be heading to the Pac-12 title game if a slip-up doesn't occur against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in week 14.
Last week: 9
9. South Carolina Gamecocks (9-2)
South Carolina is rooting for a Missouri loss in week 14 to ensure a berth in the SEC title game.
Last week: 12
8. Baylor Bears (9-1)
A week ago, people were talking about Baylor fighting for a BCS national title appearance, now they might not even win their own conference title. They will be rooting for Oklahoma to beat Oklahoma State in week 14.
Last week: 4
7. Oklahoma State Cowboys (10-1)
Oklahoma State put the beat down on Baylor at home in week 13 and it looks like the Cowboys will be Big 12 champs if they can just defeat in-state rival Oklahoma in the final game of the season.
Last week: 11
6. Missouri Tigers (10-1)
Missouri looks like a legitimate threat to win the SEC this season and if it can defeat Texas A&M in week 14, the Tigers will be heading to the conference title game.
Last week: 8
5. Clemson Tigers (10-1)
Clemson still has an outside shot to make it to the national title game, but they will need losses from nearly everyone ahead of them. Sitting at 10-1 with a Top 10 ranking in the nation before their last game against the South Carolina Gamecocks looks like an impressive, successful season, though.
Last week: 7
4. Auburn Tigers (10-1)
Auburn is setting up to play a big matchup with the Crimson Tide in the Iron Bowl. It will be interesting to see if this Auburn team is ready to be elite -- and a win could give them a chance to play for a national title.
Last week: 6
3. Ohio State Buckeyes (11-0)
Ohio State will likely keep its No. 3 ranking in the BCS this week after Baylor lost behind them. Will the Buckeyes win their final two games of the season against top rival Michigan and tough opponent Michigan State in the Big Ten title game?
Last week: 3
2. Florida State Seminoles (11-0)
Week 13's blowout of the Idaho Vandals was no surprise as Jameis Winston and the Seminoles rolled to their 11th straight victory on the season. A Heisman title for Winston and a national title for the Seminoles are still completely possible.
Last week: 2
1. Alabama Crimson Tide (11-0)
Alabama is, once again, the top team in the land. In the most anticipated Iron Bowl in recent memory, the Crimson Tide will face the surprisingly successful Auburn Tigers in week 14. A BCS title appearance is on the line in this one.
