Whether or not the SEC takes home an eighth-straight BCS national championship remains to be seen. Actually, there’s a pretty good chance that the teams at the top will knock themselves out of contention over the next few weeks. But for now, the rest of the college football world will just have to wait its turn to wear the title of best conference in the country because based on the latest BCS Standings, the SEC is still the king of college football.

Alabama has remained atop the polls since the preseason and is now joined in the top five by No. 4 Auburn and No. 5 Missouri. Auburn moved up from No. 6 in the rankings while Missouri jumped three spots, leapfrogging Clemson after beating Ole Miss on the road. Florida State is still No. 2 followed by Ohio State at No. 3, rounding out the top five.

As stated, a big shakeup at the top is inevitable, as the three highest ranked SEC teams could take each other down in the next two weeks. The Crimson Tide faces the cross-state Tigers this weekend in an epic Iron Bowl showdown for an opportunity to potentially face the cross-divisional Tigers in the SEC Championship Game, should Missouri beat No. 21 Texas A&M in its season finale.

Behind the top-five in spots six through nine are Clemson, Oklahoma State, Stanford and Baylor. No. 10 South Carolina is the fourth top-10 SEC team, while No. 17 LSU represents the sixth and final ranked team in the league. The Pac 12 finishes behind the SEC with five teams in the Top-25.

Regardless of how things play out, it appears the SEC has a good chance of sending two teams to BCS bowls, in which the conference has a 17-8 record.
