As one of the lesser-known teams in the BCS bowl race, the Central Florida Knights, or UCF, has been one of the most consistent teams on the season. With a 9-1 record and two games remaining on the schedule, it looks like the No. 19 team in the nation will have a lot to prove to crack the top 16 teams.
On the other side of the field, the South Florida Bulls, or USF, have struggled this season with a 2-8 record and not quite as strong or successful as their in-state foes. South Florida has been one of the worst overall teams in the nation this season.
Central Florida has had one of the best passing offenses in the nation behind junior quarterback Blake Bortles. The Knights rank 25th in the nation in passing yards and Bortles has 2,819 yards as well as 20 touchdowns on the year, hitting his favorite target Rannell Hall 45 times for 681 yards and three touchdowns. Breshad Perriman isn’t too far behind with 32 catches for 666 yards and two scores. Storm Johnson leads the rushing attack with 916 yards and 11 touchdowns.
South Florida has had a very poor offense this season, ranking in the 100-range for all important offensive categories. The Bulls rank 109th in passing yards, but have been better through the air in the past three games under new starter Mike White who has passed for 731 yards and three touchdowns in his three starts. The top target for whichever quarterback starts under center has been Andre Davis who has 634 yards and two scores.
Defensively, the Bulls have not played as poorly as they have on offense. Ranking 77th in the nation in points allowed and 17th in yards allowed per game, the Bulls have shown some signs of life on defense. Central Florida ranks 19th in the nation in points allowed as well as 22nd in the nation in yards allowed — this could be a low-scoring affair.
South Florida will travel to Central Florida to take on the Knights at 8 p.m. EST on Friday, Nov. 29. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN.
PREDICTION: South Florida 13, Central Florida 38
