ACC Previews and Predictions: Week 14

Melina Vastola-USA TODAY Sports

Heading into week 14 of the college football season, the ACC has turned into a two-team race with nearly everyone else out of the race. Surprisingly enough, the Duke Blue Devils seem to have snuck their way into the Top 25 and a conference title appearance isn't too far away -- they just need a win this week and they'll be set to play in the title game against a powerhouse.

As everyone knows by now, the Florida State Seminoles are the best team in the ACC and maybe even the best team in the country. Jameis Winston might be under investigation for a possible sexual assault, but he is still playing better than anyone in the country and as long as he is innocent, he will be the next Heisman winner -- the second freshman to ever do so and the second in two years.

Florida State needs to win the ACC title game in order to make an appearance in the BCS title game and it looks like it is in good shape to do so. The Seminoles have blown out nearly every team they have played, including the Clemson Tigers who were ranked in the Top 5, so it looks like they are in the best shape to win the conference title right now.

Speaking of the Tigers, Clemson has had a nice season even though it was blown out by Florida State at home. With just one loss on the year, Clemson looks like a team poised to make a push at a BCS bowl berth behind the arm of Tajh Boyd, but they have one huge test left this week in the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Overall, the ACC regular season was an interesting one. We saw the Miami Hurricanes go from a top-10 team to a struggling one. We saw the Seminoles rise to the top. We saw the Blue Devils come out of nowhere to become relevant and we saw good play all around.

Take a look at my final ACC previews and predictions of the season for every game in week 14. It has been a fun year.

Miami at Pittsburgh

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Although the game is at Pittsburgh on senior day, the Hurricanes have too talented a team to lose yet another game that would make it four out of five. Expect Stephen Morris to explode in his last regular season game in college.

PREDICTION: Miami 31, Pittsburgh 21

No. 24 Duke at North Carolina

Ellen Ozier-USA TODAY Sports

In a game that Duke needs to win, they will fall just a bit short on the road to the streaking North Carolina Tar Heels. North Carolina is too hot right now and they are at home against a rival.

PREDICTION: Duke 30, North Carolina 31

No. 2 Florida State at Florida

After last week's debacle, the Florida Gators look extremely mediocre. This is one rivalry game in the series that will probably turn ugly.

PREDICTION: Florida State 41, Florida 17

Wake Forest at Vanderbilt

Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

Wake Forest is struggling far too much this season to slow down a surging SEC team like Vanderbilt. The Commodores have improved greatly this season and look like an entirely new team.

PREDICTION: Wake Forest 13, Vanderbilt 34

Maryland at North Carolina State

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Maryland needs a win this week to prove that it belongs in a bowl game -- and it will do just that. The Terrapins will take down one the conference's two winless teams.

PREDICTION: Maryland 28, North Carolina State 24

Georgia at Georgia Tech

Daniel Shirey-USA TODAY Sports

With Aaron Murray out for the season, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets now have a better chance to win this in-state battle. Expect Georgia Tech to run all over a depleted defense and win a close one.

PREDICTION: Georgia 24, Georgia Tech 27

Boston College at Syracuse

boston college
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Boston College has been impressive this season, but Syracuse is fighting for a bowl bid. However, Boston College's run game will be far too much for the Orange to handle on senior day.

PREDICTION: Boston College 28, Syracuse 21

Virginia Tech at Virginia

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Virginia Tech will happily take its eighth win of the season over the Virginia Cavaliers. The Cavaliers are winless in conference play and Virginia Tech has one of the best defenses out there. Easy pick.

PREDICTION: Virginia Tech 30, Virginia 10

No. 6 Clemson at No. 10 South Carolina

Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports

This game should be a classic, but the Gamecocks are playing for a conference title game appearance and they might have some extra motivation because this is a must-win at home on senior day. Expect Connor Shaw to go out the right way.

PREDICTION: Clemson 27, South Carolina 31
