Home-Field Advantage Essential for Arizona State Sun Devils
The Arizona State Sun Devils are going against the Arizona Wildcats this week in a match-up that will prove if ASU can rule the Pac- 12 South Division or if Arizona has what it takes to get another upset.
The Wildcats are coming into this game with a ton of momentum after getting a huge upset win over the Oregon Ducks. The Sun Devils have a similar offense to the Ducks, a high-flying scoring team, but can fail if the defense they’re facing is having a good night. If Arizona can figure out the tweaks they need to make in their game plan, they have a good shot at beating Arizona State.
If Arizona State wins, they’ll clinch home-field advantage in the Pac- 12 Championship, having already clinched a berth in it after defeating UCLA 38-33. Having home-field advantage is huge in any situation, but for the Sun Devils it will prove even more prominent because of their opponent in the Championship Game — Stanford.
Stanford obviously has plenty of fan support, and being in another championship game will be sure to bring everyone out to support the Cardinal. The stadium is sure to be louder than most weeks, and as proven in the past, a loud stadium is a bad stadium for opponents. Stanford would love to have home-field advantage, but Arizona State can’t let that happen.
But the Championship Game is still two weeks away, and right now the Sun Devils have to focus. Blowing out Arizona would be the surefire way to clinch, but that’s easier said than done. Essentially, Arizona State is playing a team that has a huge pendulum of momentum swinging in their favor. It’s up to them to swing it back, get home-field advantage, and get ready for the biggest game of ASU’s season yet.
