Nebraska Cornhuskers' Christmas Wish List

As boys and girls finish their turkey and fixing across the state of Nebraska there is another annual tradition that will begin as soon as the tryptophan sets in following the completion of dishes and the selection of the proper football game to watch. Across the nation boys and girls will be filling out their Christmas wish list filled with Barbie Dolls, X-Boxes, PlayStations, and of course money. While this may be the circumstance in many states, in the state of Nebraska the annual request may look a bit different.

In the state of Nebraska the lists may be a bit more regionalized. Of course every other list will have a request for either a John Deere combine or a Case tractor, or perhaps a Peterbuilt or Freightliner semi truck. There are also desires for Tonka Trucks, farm sets, and ponies. Believe it or not this year may include wishes for Santa to delay snow so that fathers, grandfathers, and uncles may finish their season’s harvest.

The list will not end there for the children across the Cornhusker state. Many young Nebraskans will have Christmas wishes that include something Huskers. Some will beg for a player’s jersey or a new winter coat. Still others will want tickets to a game in 2014 (they are not as easy to come by as one may assume). The noblest young members of Big Red nation will be asking for the next National Championship. They will be in search of another Tommy Frazier or Scott Frost. Or perhaps they favor the Blackshirts and are dying to see another Ndamukong Suh. Here is a look at what many Big Red fans have on their Christmas wish list this season.

Weather it is Christmas or not the most important person in red for the next year will most likely be Ameer Abdullah. Abdullah has NFL written all over him and could potentially leave the Big Red this season. The Huskers surely want the I-Back to return for 2014.

5. Settle the Question of No Bo or Bo

Husker fans do love a good offseason story to tide them over until play resumes next fall. But to ensure future victories the Huskers need to establish who their coach will be. Whether it is Bo or not the Nebraska administrators must decide so recruiting can proceed.

4. A Quarterbacks Coach

The Nebraska Cornhuskers need a quality quarterback coach. Under Tom Osborne the Huskers had Turner Gill on staff to coach their quarterbacks. Since then offensive coordinators have served both as play-caller and quarterbacks coach. The Huskers need a coach to focus solely on the development of the quarterbacks at Nebraska. Whether that is graduate assistant and former Husker Joe Ganz or not, the Huskers need to designate one man to do the job.

3. A Healthy Offensive Line

The Huskers suffered their losses due to injury in 2013 and would love a Christmas blessing for 2014 to be a year where their offensive line stays intact. The devastating injuries were hard to swallow for Huskers fans with the worst being to All-American Spencer Long, a Nebraska native who will never again play for the Huskers.

2. A Bowl Win

The Huskers are on a long drought without winning a bowl game, but the team may make an appearance on New Year’s Day this season. The Huskers never won a bowl game with Taylor Martinez under center, and a win could really signify a change for the program.

The Huskers need to get a win in 2014 against a quality opponent outside of the Big Ten. They need to defeat a highly ranked opponent with in the Big Ten as well. If the Huskers had defeated the UCLA Bruins this season it would have meant a lot for the program. Husker fans will be asking for a victory against a BCS rated opponent in 2014.
