BCS Rankings Busted As Auburn Tigers Stun Alabama Crimson Tide
The Auburn Tigers shocked the football world Saturday evening. Return man Chris Davis took one back 109 yards as Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban foolishly elected to kick a 57-yard field goal with a young kicker with one second left on the clock.
That decision will haunt Saban a long time. A 99-yard pass from A.J. McCarron to Amari Cooper looked to have sealed it, but Nick Marshall had other ideas. He hit Sammie Coates for a 39-yard touchdown strike to tie it before the miracle return to end it.
The running game with Tre Mason and Marshall was deadly. They combined for 263 yards on the ground and shredded Bama on the ground like no team had before. Auburn should now heavily be considered to be in the top two in the BCS polls.
They just took down a national powerhouse. While there are other undefeated teams, the Tigers did something miraculous and deserve to be rewarded for it. Will it happen? We will find out when the fresh rankings come out.
One thing that is for certain? On this night, the Tigers ruined the Crimson Tide’s chances of winning the BCS National Championship and did it in stylish fashion. Their defense made stops when it needed to, and the run game and their athletic as heck quarterback got them over the hump.
For my money they should be in the National Championship game against Florida State. Ohio State looked horrid earlier today despite winning as their defense got shredded. We shall see what happens. One thing that’s already certain? The Tigers shook up the college football world on this night in the most heart stopping finish in college football history.
