It’s been an incredibly interesting couple of weeks for Jameis Winston and the Florida State Seminoles. After the redshirt freshman quarterback exploded onto the college football scene over in the first few weeks of the 2013 season, the buzz somewhat came to a halt after it was revealed that Winston was possibly involved in a sexual assault. Now as the Seminoles are preparing to play in the ACC Championship game, news has come across the wire that the QB will not be charged. Winston is now set to led his team into championship week and if all goes well, the National Championship game in January.
You certainly never want to make light of a sexual assault case, but it’s no doubt a great thing for FSU that this whole fiasco is in the rearview mirror. There will be questions about whether Winston’s celebrity status played a role in him being cleared, but that’s really about it from a distraction standpoint. It’s now fully back to business for Jimbo Fisher‘s team. It’s not like they weren’t already focused on the task at hand, but you can’t tell me this whole thing wasn’t hovering over the FSU team like a dark rain cloud.
With Winston, the Seminoles are now clear favorites to knock off Duke and to take their place in the BCS title game. As for their opponent, the safe bet is that it will be Ohio State. However, if we see some upsets on championship Saturday, who knows who Winston and company will face come January 6th.
