Auburn Tigers Win SEC Championship, Still Don't Belong In BCS Title Game

The Auburn Tigers won the SEC championship game over the Missouri Tigers. Most years that would mean Auburn would go on to play in the BCS title game, but this year is not like most years… maybe. Auburn may be the champs in the best conference in college football, but they do not belong in the title game.

With that in mind, Auburn could still sneak in if Ohio State or Florida State loses. If that is in fact the case, then the Tigers definitely belong in the championship.

Auburn has beaten three ranked teams (at the time) in back-to-back-to-back games. Georgia. Alabama. Missouri. Those are the three teams that the Tigers have beaten over the last few weeks. Not too shabby.

The Tigers’ only blemish is that loss to LSU back in September. This team has had an amazing season. They have beaten three top 10 teams (at the time).

Still, Ohio State is undefeated and that has to count for something. The Seminoles are ranked No. 1 in the BCS and there is no way that Auburn is going to jump them.

There has been a lot of talk about the Tigers jumping the Buckeyes in the standings, but that definitely should not be the case if Ohio State wins the Big Ten championship.

The SEC has dominated college football over the last few years, but it is time to give other teams outside of the conference a chance. Auburn dropped 59 points on Missouri–currently ranked No. 5 in the nation–and also rushed for 545 yards. Auburn is definitely good enough to win a championship this season, but it does not deserve to go to the title game if Ohio State and Florida State finish the season perfect.
