There shouldn’t even be a real ceremony for the Heisman Trophy this year because we all know Jameis Winston is going to win it. After getting cleared of all charges in his sexual assault allegations, Winston is basically the runaway favorite and is expected to win the trophy by a landslide. But Johnny Manziel deserves to win the Heisman for a second straight season.

First off, Manziel has appeared to put all his off field issues behind him. He was on the field playing great in the hardest conference in college football history. The SEC is ten times better than the ACC. Manziel played some of the best competition in the country and absolutely torched them. The most memorable game for Manziel is his dominant performance against the then No. 1 team in the country, the Alabama Crimson Tide. Manziel threw for 464 yards and rushed for 98 more. He threw five touchdowns that game against the best team in the country.

Secondly, Manziel is going to get screwed by the fact that his team is not as good as Winston’s. It is becoming too common that voters take into account how the teams are doing rather than the individual player. The Heisman is awarded to the best player in the country, and Manziel is not only the best in the country but he is the most important player to his team. The Texas A&M Aggies are 8-4 and have one of the worst defenses in the country. If you take Manaziel off this team they are probably 3-9 or 4-8. He alone accounts for four or five of the team’s wins.

Thirdly, he has shown incredible toughness all season long. In the game that basically eliminated him from winning the Heisman race against the Auburn Tigers, Manziel hurt his shoulder late in the game. Not only did he bring them back to tie the game he went a perfect 7-for-7 on that drive before throwing a touchdown pass. Once again his defense gave away the game and Auburn went right down the field and scored.

Manziel is going to get shafted from winning his second straight Heisman Trophy. Take this into account: Winston has played one more game than Manziel and has only thrown for 114 more yards. Manziel also has a slightly better completion percentage.

Manziel will not win his second Heisman, but he definitely should. He is by far the best player in the country.
