Teddy Bridgewater will be the best quarterback if he declares for the NFL draft this year. The main word there was if. Until today it was basically a given that Bridgewater would be coming out, but reports are surfacing that he is debating on staying at the University of Louisville for his senior season.
This would be a huge mistake if Bridgewater stays. People are saying that he might not be the No. 1 pick in the draft, but he will definitely be the first quarterback to go off the board. This year’s quarterback class was looking like one of the best ever until injuries and players staying ruined that. The next best quarterback on most big boards is Derek Carr and then Johnny Manziel. Personally I think Manziel is better than Carr, but that’s a whole different debate.
If Bridgewater returns to Louisville he is risking a lot. If his play slips or he gets injured he could end up like Matt Barkley or Matt Leinart. Those two players decided to return to college for one more season and got hurt or played poorly. It killed their draft stock and both amounted to nothing in the NFL. Bridgewater isn’t going to win a national championship if he returns, but he could win a Heisman trophy. That is the only reason I could see for him returning.
Bridgewater really should declare for the draft as soon as he can. He would be the best player in the draft, and some team would be getting a franchise quarterback without a doubt.
