15 Bold Predictions For College Football Bowl Season
Bold Predictions For Bowl Season
Ladies and gentleman, it’s bowl season! As usual, there are some great matchups to say the least. Who knows what the outcome of any of the games will be, but this article will feature 15 bold predictions for the college football bowl season regardless.
Some of these predictions may not seem that bold and some may leave people scratching their heads. Nevertheless, they are predictions. Since they are predictions, they are clearly not guaranteed to happen.
I am still shocked that the Alabama Crimson Tide are not playing in the national championship game, but another SEC team will have the chance to win the BCS title game. However, the Auburn Tigers will be going up against an undefeated Florida State team. There will be many storylines in this game. I mean, it is the title game and two of the Heisman finalists are playing in it.
Will an SEC team win the title game for an eighth consecutive season or will the Seminoles break that streak? We will have to wait and see the outcome of that one, but there will be a prediction of that matchup in this article.
There are 15 predictions in this slideshow, which means we will not be making a prediction for every single bowl game. Some of these predictions feature upsets and other predictions feature performances that some players could have.
No matter the outcome of any of the games, I am sure we are in store for a great bowl season. College football is one of the most exciting sports to watch and all.
Well, get ready for the college football bowl season by reading these 15 bold predictions.
Fresno State Bulldogs’ Derek Carr Throws For 6 TDS
Derek Carr is kind of good at throwing touchdowns. He does have 48 on the season and all, which is 10 more passing TDs than anyone else in college football. However, he has only thrown six or more TDs in two games this season and the Fresno State Bulldogs will be taking on the USC Trojans.
USC is only allowing 21.3 points per game.
Jordan Lynch Will Be Held to 2 TDs or Less
Jordan Lynch has 45 touchdowns on the year and is one of the finalists for the Heisman. Unfortunately, Northern Illinois will be taking on Utah State in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. The Aggies do not have the best record in the world (8-5), but they are only allowing 17.3 points per game, which is good enough for seventh in the nation.
Either Lynch is going to go off--like he has been doing all season--or Utah State is going to shut him down. Regardless, something has to give.
Miami Is Going To Beat Louisville
Maybe this isn’t the most bold prediction in the world, but Louisville is coming into the Russell Athletic Bowl ranked in the BCS standings and Miami is not.
Teddy Bridgewater helped the Cardinals pull off a huge upset in last year’s Allstate Sugar Bowl against Florida. He is not going to have his way with yet another Florida team in a bowl game. At least not this year.
Louisville could have easily lost its last three games and the Hurricanes will provide a serious challenge.
Oregon Will Score 50+ Points on Texas
The Oregon Ducks have one of the best offenses and Texas does not necessarily have one of the best defenses. Texas is allowing 25.5 points per game on average and the Ducks are putting up 46.8 points per game on average.
Oregon has not dropped 50 or more points since Oct. 19. The Ducks are well overdue. Oh yeah, they are ranked No. 10 in the BCS and Texas is not ranked.
Boston College’s Andre Williams Will Rush For At Least 200 Yards
Andre Williams has the most rushing yards in college football. He has only rushed under 100 yards three times this season. One of those games was the last contest of the season for Boston College. However, people can expect him to run for over 200 yards against Arizona in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl.
That may not be the most bold prediction in the world considering that he has rushed for 200+ yards five times already this year.
Duke Upsets Texas A&M
Duke upsets Texas A&M? What planet are we living on again? Anyways, Duke is actually good at football this season and it is ranked No. 24 in the BCS to prove it.
The Blue Devils were slaughtered in their last game against Florida State, but that was their first loss since Sept. 28. Texas A&M is on a two-game skid, but is still probably the favorite in this contest.
Johnny Manziel Still Has A Huge Game
I may be predicting the Aggies to lose against the Blue Devils, but people can still expect a huge performance out of Johnny Manziel. Another not so bold prediction since Manziel is a Heisman finalist once again, but he has only thrown for two TDs in his last two games.
A big performance out of him usually equals a win for Texas A&M.
South Carolina Thumps Wisconsin
South Carolina has won five games in a row, which includes two victories over top 10 teams. Wisconsin is easily one of the best teams in the Big Ten, but I am predicting the Gamecocks to blow it out in the Capital One Bowl.
Keep in mind that the Badgers are only allowing 14.8 points per game (sixth in the nation).
Iowa Upsets LSU
LSU lost its starting quarterback for the season, which means bad news for the Tigers. It will be interesting to see how they do without Zach Mettenberger, but I am predicting Iowa to beat them regardless.
Baylor Bears Won’t Score As Many Points As Some People May Think
Baylor has a pretty good offense. The Bears do score 53.3 points per game on average. However, they will be going up against the AAC’s finest in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.
I am not saying UCF is going to come away with the victory, but I do not think Baylor will score as many points as some people may think. The Bears could easily drop 50 points. I am going with under 30 for them, though.
Alabama Will Win By At Least 3 TDs
Remember when the Alabama Crimson Tide were considered the best team in college football? Yeah me too. A loss to Auburn changed that all.
If you are like me, you still think Alabama is the best team even though they are not going to be playing for the national championship. The Crimson Tide are going to avenge their loss against the Tigers by whooping up on the Oklahoma Sooners--by at least three touchdowns.
Ohio State Will Lose Second Game of the Season
Ohio State seemed destined to make the BCS title game, but it ended up losing the Big Ten championship game. Urban Meyer is one heck of a coach and the Buckeyes are clearly a good football team, but I am going with Clemson in the Discover Orange Bowl.
Oklahoma State vs. Missouri Matchup Will Be Most Exciting Bowl
I am sure I am not the only person who thinks this. Both teams are ranked right around No. 10 in the BCS and people can expect a shootout in this one.
Stanford Beats Michigan State In A Close One
No matter who wins this game, it will not be considered an upset. However, I am going with Stanford in the Rose Bowl.
The Cardinal have beaten every ranked opponent they have faced this season, which equals seven victories over ranked opponents (at the time). The Spartans have beaten two ranked opponents.
SEC Team Will Win Eighth Consecutive BCS Title
The SEC kind of dominates college football. The conference has featured the winner in the past seven national championships. Auburn will have the chance to keep that streak alive when it takes on Florida State in the title game.
Florida State is undefeated and really should be the favorite entering this matchup, but I am going with an SEC team to win an eighth consecutive BCS title game.
The Seminoles may be undefeated, but the Tigers have beaten three ranked SEC opponents in a row, which includes the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Missouri Tigers.
