5 Reasons to Watch the Valero Alamo Bowl

Brendan Maloney-USA TODAY Sports

When the bowl games were first announced, the Valera Alamo Bowl quickly jumped on to the list of must-see bowl games. The Valera Alamo Bowl will be played between the Pac-12's Oregon Ducks and the Big-12's Texas Longhorns. For Texas, it will be their second straight Alamo Bowl appearance which is held in their home state. The Ducks, on the other hand, will be playing in their first non-BCS bowl game in the last five seasons.

Oregon and Texas are two of the top brands across college football, so the hype will easily be there. Nationally, viewers figure to tune into the game because of the two programs being so well known. Most notably, both schools are Nike sponsored programs which will be a big draw as well.

Aside from that, the game received am extra element of hype with the Mack Brown saga. The Alamo Bowl will be Brown's final game as head coach of Texas, and he will be stepping down at season's end. This is Brown's 16th season with the Longhorns and it has been quite a ride down in the Lone Star State.

Brown built the program into national prominence and also brought home a National Championship during his tenure. However, all season long the rumors were swirling that this could be his final year for various reasons. Texas has seen changes at the top of the university as well, and Brown appeared to be a marked man.

Aside from the head coach that will be wearing burnt orange and white, the game figures to be a great one. Here are five reasons to tune into the Alamo Bowl.

With Oregon in the mix, the scoreboard figures to get a workout. The question will be if the Longhorns can keep up and turn the Alamo Bowl into a shootout in the heart of Texas. The game will have a home-game atmosphere for the Longhorns, but could that be enough to keep them in it?

De'Anthony Thomas is one of the most exciting runners out there. Thomas has missed some time this year with injury, but when he is out on the field he is one of the best. He is just a junior, but his speed and quickness certainly will be on display at the next level. Could this be his final game as a Duck?
