While the Baylor Bears certainly didn’t need any help on the offensive side of the ball heading into their BCS matchup with the Central Florida Knights in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, they will certainly welcome the return of one of their top offensive playmakers. Wide receiver Tevin Reese missed the final four games of the season but is set to return for the January 1 bowl game, giving Baylor yet another weapon in their highly potent offensive attack.

Reese suffered a dislocated wrist when he came down awkwardly on a play early against the Oklahoma Sooners. He has spent his time in a cast since then and watched from the sidelines as Baylor went on to win the Big 12 title and punch their ticket to the BCS. Reese is set to have the cast removed on Friday, after which he will set a rehab plan with team doctors. The senior wide receiver told reporters in a phone interview that “Words can’t explain how ready I am. I’m pretty excited to get back, ready to get back.”

Quarterback Bryce Petty felt pretty excited about the news as well, saying “It was like I had Christmas early” about getting Reese back on the field. In seven games before his injury, Reese caught 33 passes for 824 yards with eight touchdowns. His 117.7 yards receiving average over that span lead all pass catchers in the Big 12 and were the fifth highest in college football as he averaged a preposterous 24.97 yards per reception. His eight receptions of 40-yards or more rank fifth in the country despite missing the final month of the season.

He is a deep-threat as good as anyone in the country and will provide another weapon for the Baylor offense in the Fiesta Bowl. It’s a boost they likely didn’t need as the most prolific offense in the country this season even after Reese’s injury but it’s a boost that they will happily accept.
