Late-Season Collapse Proves Heisman Finalist Jordan Lynch Was Overrated

Despite having an unreal 2013 campaign full of rushing, passing and even receiving touchdowns, Jordan Lynch was very much so a disappointment for Northern Illinois fans across the nation. While Lynch might have turned heads by going from Dekalb, Illinois to New York City, New York as a Heisman Trophy finalist earlier this month; it was all downhill for the QB the second he placed his hand on the illustrious trophy.

For a second straight season, the Huskies were upended in a bowl game and just like 2012 — this one was no contest. The Utah State Aggies found a way to get under Lynch’s skin as their seventh-ranked defense forced two Lynch turnovers and was definitely up to the task of keeping No. 6 at bay. On 18 caries, Lynch rushed for a mere 39 yards. To put that in perspective: Lynch went into the game averaging over 6.8 yards per carry and just a few rushes away from breaking the 2,000-yard mark on the year.

At the end of the day; Huskies fans are likely to look back at Lynch’s great career at Northern Illinois and think of the all the positive things. However, there will always be a certain asterisks next to Lynch’s name because of his inability to come up big against some average schools when it mattered most.
