2014 Sugar Bowl: Trevor Knight Becomes Household Name in Oklahoma Sooners’ Victory
Heading into last night’s Sugar Bowl, the Alabama Crimson Tide were the obvious favorite in their match-up with the Oklahoma Sooners. Quite frankly, OU was given almost no respect this season regardless of their 11-win total. No one thought Oklahoma was going to be very good because of their issues at the quarterback position. Well after last night, the Sooners ended their season with an exclamation point.
Trevor Knight had a coming out party last night in dominating fashion. In fact, Knight ended all controversy moving forward regarding the Sooners’ quarterback position. Blake Bell will be returning next season to Oklahoma, but Knight is hands down the best quarterback on the team. Knight may not have the abilities of Jason White or Sam Bradford, but he has enough ability to lead OU to a possible championship.
Now if Oklahoma expects to compete for the National Championship next season they’re going to need more than just Knight. OU is going to have to continue the solid defensive pressure they were able to get on A.J. McCarron last night. If the Sooners’ defense is able to do their part, it will make life a whole lot easier on Knight next season.
Knight’s performance last night was his coming out party, and now all eyes will be on him come next season. How the young quarterback handles scrutiny and the pressure is still to be determined. However, if last night was any indication, Knight will be just fine as the starting quarterback for Oklahoma.
