Can Ricky Seals-Jones Step Up for Texas A&M Aggies in 2014?

The Texas A&M Aggies will lose plenty of talent to the 2014 NFL Draft with both quarterback Johnny Manziel and wide receiver Mike Evans leaving school as early-entrants to the draft. That leaves a pretty significant offensive void for Kevin Sumlin to fill this offseason. While the quarterback race appears to be a dead heat heading into spring practice, the team will be sure to rely on one playmaker next season for sure in wide receiver Rickey Seals-Jones. Can the talented game-breaker find his footing in 2014?

While there’s no shortage of receiving talent at A&M right now, Seals-Jones has the ability to be a real difference-maker for the Aggies next fall. He flashed what he was capable of early on with 71-yard touchdown pass against the Rice Owls, but was limited for the rest of the year with a knee injury prevented him from really making an impact during his freshman season. He finished the year with just just those three catches for 84 yards and a touchdown against Rice on the year.

But nobody is questioning the talent of Seals-Jones. When he signed with A&M, it was a huge get for the Aggies and they will be looking for ways to get him the football in 2014 to jumpstart his sophomore campaign. If Seals-Jones can come back 100 percent healthy, the 6-foot-5 playmaker could slide right into the role that Evans filled last season as the team’s big-play threat in the passing game.

Having that playmaker established at receiver will only help the Aggies and whoever ends up replacing Manziel under center in 2014. Getting Seals-Jones on track so that he can start to deliver on his phenomenal talent will be the key for the Aggies this offseason if they hope to stay competitive in the SEC next fall.
