It has been a tough couple of months for Michigan State Spartans quarterback commit, Jayru Campbell. The four-star gunslinger has been one of the best — if not the best — quarterbacks in Michigan over the past few seasons and he is likely to be a star at the next level — if he can stay out of trouble. According to a video that went viral yesterday, the young athlete body slammed a school security guard at Cass Tech High School in Detroit and was taken in by police.
This wasn’t his first incident in the past few months as Campbell has already been suspended for the school’s first game of 2014 because he punched an opponent after the game during postgame hand shakes.
The video is below, but I warn you, it’s extremely unfortunate that the officer was treated like a rag doll. Luckily no one was injured seriously and the officer got up and walked off. Take a look:
It’s tough to see something like that happen to a guy who is just trying to do his job. Although we don’t know what happened in the altercation, it’s pretty obvious that Campbell is going to be extremely regretful — especially if he watches the video.
Committed to play for Michigan State in 2015, Campbell was expected to be the future QB for the Spartans after Connor Cook and Damion Terry depart, but this could put a damper on his future plans.
Mark Dantonio is known as a dean of discipline and will surely use that on future players as well. No word has come out yet on if the head coach will pull Campbell’s scholarship, but seeing what he did to punish star linebacker and captain Max Bullough for the Rose Bowl this year, things don’t look so well for Campbell.
Let’s hope Campbell gets his act together sooner rather than later.
