Alabama Crimson Tide: Nick Saban Continues Outstanding Recruiting
Since the arrival of Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa, the Alabama Crimson Tide are annually at, or near, the top of the college football world. Saban has proven that he is one of the nation’s top coaches, and perhaps one of the best college football coaches of all-time.
The thing about college coaches that is sometimes forgotten is recruiting. To be an outstanding college football coach, you must be able to recruit. Some programs simply recruit enough talent to win, overcoming inabilities in coaching.
However, the truly special programs are able to recruit great talent, then develop that talent, meshing outstanding individuals into an elite unit on the field.
No one does this better than Saban. Obviously, he has produced incredible results on the field, winning three BCS National Championships with the Crimson Tide, in addition to the one he won with the LSU Tigers.
But what gets overlooked about Saban is how he excels on the recruiting trail. On Wednesday, which is National Signing Day (a major holiday in Southeastern Conference territory), Saban appears to be ready to sign the nation’s top recruiting class once again. He has commitments from five-star players Tony Brown (Beaumont, Texas), Da’Shawn Hand (Woodbridge, Va.), Marlon Humphrey (Hoover, Ala.), Cameron Robinson (West Monroe, La.) and Bo Scarbrough (Northport, Ala.).
For those that say Saban can only recruit the South, take a look at this year’s commit list. There are players from California, Colorado, Iowa, Ohio, Oklahoma and Minnesota. Saban’s reach is national. Every high school player knows Alabama and Saban. And most of them would love to be a part of the nation’s strongest program.
On Wednesday, Saban will do it again, reeling in another great class. Yet another class that hopes to take the Tide to a national championship.
