It has been a big day for the LSU Tigers and head coach Les Miles as they have landed some of the nation’s top undecided recruits and No. 1 ranked wide receiver in the entire class, Malachi Dupre.
Dupre is considered the best WR in the class by many recruiting experts and he has been labeled a 5-star by a handful of recruiting websites. He has speed, size and strength that is needed to be an elite-level receiver and fill in for the departing Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry. However, he will not have the luxury of having one of the nation’s top QBs in Zach Mettenberger throwing him the ball.
Sure, it looks like a pretty solid signing on paper, but people don’t realize just how big this commitment from Dupre really is. The kid is 6-foot-2 and about 187 pounds and with a little more muscle, he will become the perfect pro-style receiver.
Losing Beckham and Landry looked to be big blows to the passing game for 2014, but the Tigers have also locked up Trey Quinn and Tony Upchurch who are both four-star WRs in the class of 2014.
It makes sense that the Tigers have been a bit worried about the passing game because of the loss of two of the nation’s top wide outs, but the addition of Dupre will pay off for the next few years. As an instant impact type of player who can also run a 4.50 40-yard dash, Dupre will be relied on heavily as a freshman and in the years to come.
The Tigers got a great commitment in this young star.
