Michael Sam coming out as gay is the story that everyone is talking about. An NFL Draft prospect revealing that he’s a homosexual, is not something you see everyday. In fact, it’s something that we’ve never seen before. Therefore, it’s a story deserving of the attention that it’s getting. The good side of the story, is that the support for Sam has been overwhelming so far.

While that end zone logo doesn’t speak for every single person at the University of Missouri, it seems to be a clear statement of support from Sam’s school. On top of the support he’s received from the school, he’s also got plenty of it from his teammates.
Here’s what Sam had to say about his fellow Tigers: “Just to see their reaction was awesome. They supported me from day one. I couldn’t have better teammates. I’m telling you what — I wouldn’t have the strength to do this today if I didn’t know how much support they’d given me this past semester.”
The defensive end reportedly came out to his teammates several months back, but waited until now to officially come out to the world because he didn’t want to be a distraction.
Missouri coach Gary Pinkel summed up his Sam’s announcement and his program with this statement: “I’m really proud of Mike and really proud of our football team. We have great kids and good people, and they’re understanding. That’s kind of the environment we have and the family atmosphere at Mizzou.”
