Alabama was one play away from a chance to play in the 2013 BCS National Championship game. Now the Crimson Tide will need to replace several key pieces if they hope to compete for a championship this season. These five players will play a pivotal role in the success of the program.

Trey DePriest will need to fill the leadership void now that C.J. Mosley has moved on to the NFL. DePriest has the talent -- no question. Can he become the defensive leader is the question that needs to be answered this spring.

O.J. Howard is an imposing player. At 6-foot-6 and 237-pounds, Howard provides a big target for quarterbacks. This will be important in 2014 since the Tide will be breaking in a new signal caller. Howard has the chance to be one of the top tight ends in the SEC.

Alabama will need to replace both safeties this season. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Vinnie Sunseri have moved on to the NFL. Nick Perry has experience playing safety, starting four games in 2012 and two in 2013 before suffering a season-ending injury. If he can stay healthy, Perry should get the starting job opposite Landon Collins.

Alabama fans have to be excited about the thought of Derrick Henry running through SEC defenses. The sophomore is a large man – 6-foot-3 and 238-pounds. He brings the thunder to T.J. Yeldon's lightning. Henry's coming-out party was against Oklahoma in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. He had nine touches for 161 yards and two scores. Henry will play a significant role in the offense as Alabama breaks in a new quarterback.

Speaking of quarterback, who will fill this position in 2014? A.J. McCarron has graduated, leaving Alabama with two national championship rings in his four years. The leading candidate to replace him is Florida State transfer Jacob Coker. Coker has an NFL arm. At Florida Sate he was stuck behind some talented QBs and didn't get to show it off. Coker won't be on campus until May, but Nick Saban is keeping the QB competition open just for him.
