The South Carolina Gamecocks lost a lot of talent this offseason to the NFL, and going into 2014, several young players will need to step up. With guys like Connor Shaw, Bruce Ellington and Jadeveon Clowney all now in the NFL, the youngsters on the roster need to take the next step in 2014. With further ado, here are the five South Carolina football players with the biggest shoes to fill.

Expected to take over for Bruce Ellington in 2014, Pharoh Cooper has some pretty big shoes to fill. Ellington was extremely productive for the Gamecocks in 2013, and it’s up to Cooper to replace that production.

Victor Hampton has taken his talents to the NFL, and now it’s up to Rico McWilliams to take over for him. McWilliams has the coverage ability to be successful, and as long as he can continue to develop, he should be fine.

3. Dylan Thompson, QB

Star QB Connor Shaw is in the NFL now, and it’s up to Dylan Thompson to take over South Carolina’s offense. Thompson will face a lot of pressure in 2014, and it’s crucial to both his and South Carolina’s success that he proves he is capable of taking over the starting job.

2. Phillip Dukes, DT

Taking over for Kelcy Quarles won’t be an easy task for Phillip Dukes, however, I believe he’s up to the task. Dukes has some big shoes to fill, but with an explosive first step off the snap, and a developing ability to rush the pass, Dukes could surprise.

Darius English easily has the biggest shoes to fill for South Carolina in 2014, as he has been tasked with the responsibility of taking over for star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. English probably won't provide the type of star power Clowney did, however, English should be a solid starter.
