On their way to the BCS National Championship game last season, the Auburn Tigers put a great deal of young talent on display. While Auburn relied heavily on veteran RB Tre Mason, they saw underclassmen make important contributions all over the field. Those players who showed only flashes of brilliance will be asked to do a lot more in 2014, as the Tigers look to repeat as SEC champs and make an appearance in the first college football Playoff.

Montravius Adams was one of the top defensive tackles in the nation for the 2013 recruiting class and played his way onto the field early. Adams ended up earning freshman All-American honors from 247Sports after recording 20 tackles (with 1.5 for a loss) and a sack. With a year of experience under his belt, Adams could turn into a dominant force in the middle of Auburn's defensive line in 2014.

Kris Frost came on strong towards the end of last season, including his seven-tackle performance against the Florida State Seminoles in the BCS National Championship. That was a season-high for Frost, and it followed two six-tackle games against the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Missouri Tigers in the SEC Championship. Frost accounted for 59 tackles on the year while rotating at middle linebacker with Jake Holland.

With Dee Ford off to the NFL, the Tigers will need someone to step up at defensive end. One potential candidate is Elijah Daniel, who saw the field a bit as a true freshman last season. Daniel recorded nine tackles with three for a loss and 2.5 sacks last year. He should play a much bigger role in the rotation this season.

As a sophomore last season, Ricardo Louis made 28 receptions for 325 yards and two touchdowns. Louis also added 198 yards on 19 rushing attempts. He helped the Tigers more as the season went on, with his best game coming against the Georgia Bulldogs to the tune of 131 receiving yards on four catches and 66 yards on the ground. Louis could be one of Auburn's top playmakers this season.

Carl Lawson was considered by many to be the top defensive lineman in the country for the 2013 recruiting class. Lawson demonstrated why that was the case as a true freshman last season, making 20 tackles (with 7.5 for a loss), four sacks and two forced fumbles on the way to appearing on multiple freshman All-American teams. This year, Lawson was named to the preseason All-SEC second team and should be the star of an excellent defensive line.

The Auburn football schedule has the team playing their first game on August 30 against the Arkansas Razorbacks at the Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn. The Tigers went 12-2 and 7-1 in SEC games last season. The team will play its first road game against Kansas State on September 18. Their final game will be against Alabama on November 29.
