Putting aside everything that’s been said and written about Tim Tebow’s career in the NFL, it’s important to remember he was one of the very best college football players of all time. When labeling someone as the “next Tim Tebow”, it’s important to note that this comparison has more to do with a player’s college game than his pro potential. That being said, here are five current college QBs who could approach Tebow-like status.

Playing at BYU, Hill doesn’t receive the kind of national attention that the other QBs on this list do, but he has emerged as one of the most dynamic players in the country. Hill racked up over 4,300 yards of offense and 29 total touchdowns in 2013 and should be able to improve upon those numbers. Playing at a school with a great quarterback pedigree, Hill has a chance to put BYU back on the college football map.

Aside from Jameis Winston, Hackenberg was arguably the most impressive freshman quarterback in the country last season. What is even more impressive is that Hackenberg put up the numbers that he did (almost 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns) as a true freshman, meaning that he has at least two more big seasons left for the Nittany Lions. Under fiery new coach James Franklin, Hackenberg and Penn State could surprise some people in 2014.

3. Braxton Miller - Ohio St.

If anybody can help a quarterback deal with comparisons to Tim Tebow, it’s his former coach and current Buckeyes boss Urban Meyer. Miller has thrived in the same system Meyer used to turn Tebow and Alex Smith into stars. Now all that Miller needs to do is prove he can win the big games like those two did. Coming off a crushing Orange Bowl defeat to Clemson, Miller will try to get the Buckeyes back to the top of the college football world.

2. Marcus Mariota - Oregon

If there’s one thing that distinguishes Mariota from Tebow, it’s that Mariota is a far more advanced passer than Tebow ever was. However, the redshirt junior possesses the kind of running ability that makes him almost impossible to defend. Oregon's offense will be in the spotlight all year long as they compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff, and Mariota himself will be contending to be the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Winston may have more in common with recent college superstar Johnny Manziel, but there is no doubt he is the closest thing to Tim Tebow college football has seen since Tebow left Florida. Winston made an entrance of epic proportions, winning both the Heisman Trophy and a National Championship as a redshirt freshman. Winston also faces the type of relentless scrutiny that Tebow did, as everything he does will be put under the microscope.
