There is no question that the Florida State Seminoles are more than good enough to go undefeated this season. However, we know that talent doesn’t always guarantee you a victory, as the Seminoles have proved in years past. There are a couple reasons on why I believe the Seminoles won’t go undefeated.
First and foremost, the schedule is much more difficult than a year ago. Notre Dame will be making a trip to Tallahassee this season which should be challenging, especially if Everett Golson is playing. Also, the team is adding a Thursday night game on the road against the ACC’s newest school, Louisville. The Seminoles haven’t had the best of luck on Thursday nights, in fact most Seminole fans dislike everything about Thursday night road games. Then you still have a trip to Miami, and you never know what Hurricanes team will bring.
Next, the Seminoles have lost more talent in the last two season to the NFL than any other team in the country. Even with that, they still have a plethora of talent on both sides of the ball, all be it inexperienced in some key areas. They arguably have the best offensive line in the country, but Jameis Winston doesn’t have as many proven weapons to throw the ball too. Young, inexperienced players like Levonte “Kermit” Whitfield, Isaiah Jones, Ermon Lane and Travis Rudolph will have to earn his trust. Scooter Haggins and Christian Green should provide some veteran leadership besides Rashad Greene and Nick O’Leary, but who knows if that’ll be enough.
Defensively, they have amazing athleticism and talent across the board, but they lost depth and leadership that they will be searching to find. Returning one of the best secondary’s in the country will be a blessing, but a young front seven could be their Achilles’ heel.
To me, those are the biggest reasons why they will not run the table again this season. That being said, I believe they still have a chance of making the playoffs even with a single blemish on their record. Only time will truly tell how everything will unfold.
