The upcoming Big Ten football season promises to be a strong one, with several games that should hold the viewers' interest throughout the year. From Week 1 to the final week of the regular season, there are games that have plenty of storylines behind them.

Ordinarily, games like this don’t make it onto a top 10 list -- unless you remember the year Appalachian State actually knocked off Michigan in Ann Arbor, which was the college football upset heard around the world. This is the rematch, and the Wolverines have long memories.

9. Wisconsin vs. LSU at Arlington, Texas (Aug. 30)

The opening weekend of the season sees Wisconsin travel down south for a game that has huge first-week implications. The game will be played in Arlington at Cowboys Stadium as part of the annual Texas Kickoff Classic.

8. Michigan State at Oregon (Sept. 6)

Week 2 of the season has a matchup of two top-10 teams, but is it a possible playoff preview? The road to a Pac-12 Conference title looks like it goes through Eugene, but does a Big Ten title go through East Lansing? This is a non-league game, but the winner will get a big confidence boost.

7. Michigan at Notre Dame (Sept. 6)

Yes, Michigan has been down in recent years, but Wolverines vs. Irish always draws a crowd no matter where the game is played. It isn’t likely that Michigan will fall to Appalachian State again, but if it happens and the Wolverines lose this game, Brady Hoke’s coaching seat will get red-hot very fast.

6. Miami at Nebraska (Sept. 20)

One of the leaders of the newly-renamed Big Ten West Division gets a crack at a perennial football power when the Hurricanes come into Lincoln. Miami is an honorable mention selection this year, but a win by Nebraska would go a long way toward cementing the Cornhuskers as a team to watch.

A potential preview of a Big Ten championship game takes place in East Lansing when these two schools meet in a league matchup. Michigan State knocked off Nebraska last season, so the Cornhuskers hope MSU comes into the game on a down note.

This is always a big game for bragging rights in the state of Michigan. Ever since Mike Hart called Michigan State “little brother” several years ago, Spartan players have responded by winning. The balance of power in Michigan rests in East Lansing, but a win here would really reignite the Wolverine faithful in Hoke’s favor.

3. Ohio State at Michigan State (Nov. 8)

A rematch of the Big Ten title game, this contest has huge implications because of the teams’ top 10 status this season. With Spartan Stadium serving as the backdrop and a national television audience tuning in,
this game could be one for the record books.

2. Nebraska at Wisconsin (Nov. 15)

For all intents and purposes, this game is likely the game that decides the Big Ten West. Unless Northwestern plays spoiler, no team from the West holds a candle to these two schools, and the winner of the game will likely punch a ticket to Indianapolis.

The last week of the regular season sees the annual renewal of one of the oldest rivalries in college football. Ohio State won this game last year, but Michigan will want something to play for; and if they are in the title hunt, this game could be big. Otherwise, if Ohio State is heavily favored, this could be Hoke’s last regular season game as the Wolverines' coach.
