No conference has seen its selection of rivalry games devastated more than the Big 12. But although some of the league's best rivalries are no more, there are still plenty of great ones, fueled both by history and proximity. Here are the five best Big 12 football rivalries heading into the 2014 season.

5) TCU vs. Baylor

The rivalry between Baylor and TCU is a rare example of one actually improved by conference realignment. Although TCU is only a recent addition to the Big 12, this is actually one of the oldest rivalries in the conference. It is also as close as a rivalry could possibly get, with the series currently dead even at 51-51-7.

The Iowa State Cyclones vs. the Kansas State Wildcats is the seventh-longest continuous rivalry in college football, having been played every year since 1917. The Cyclones dominated the rivalry until about 1990, but ever since then the Wildcats have had a decided advantage, going 20-4. But the Cyclones should be an improved team this year and could test the Wildcats in Ames.

3) Texas vs. Texas Tech

The battle for the Chancellor's Spurs will take place in Lubbock this year, and the Texas Tech Red Raiders should have an excellent chance to end their losing streak to the Texas Longhorns. The Red Raiders haven't won this rivalry game since 2008 but there is still plenty of resentment left over, as the Longhorns entered the game 8-0 and ranked No. 1. The loss ended up costing the Long Horns an appearance in the BCS National Championship Game.

2) Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State

The Bedlam Series between the Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma State Cowboys has produced a number of very good games in recent memory, despite it being a lopsided rivalry historically. The Sooners currently have an 84-17-7 advantage in the series. In 2014, the game will be another shootout between two great offenses in Norman, but the Sooners should be favored once again.

The Red River Rivalry, played annually between Oklahoma and Texas is one of the best in sports. The Longhorns lead the all-time series 60-43-5, but since the 1970s the rivalry has been much closer. Since then, neither team has won more than five in a row (Oklahoma accomplished that streak twice). Last year, the Longhorns went into the game unranked and pulled a major upset over the No. 12 Sooners, to snap a three-game losing streak in the series.
