Without a doubt, the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Ole Miss Rebels were the stars of Week 6. Mississippi State annihilated Texas A&M and Ole Miss rallied to defeat Alabama at the end of the fourth quarter. Mississippi State will be facing the second-ranked Auburn Tigers and defending SEC Champions. Ole Miss will try its hand at Texas A&M, a team that will do everything in its power to not suffer another humiliating defeat. Week 7 will prove whether the past week were fortunate victories for the Mississippi teams, or whether one or both have the talent to make it to the BCS Playoffs.
Ole Miss will undoubtedly be studying every second of the game between Mississippi State and Texas A&M. To continue the downfall of the Aggies and to remain in the Top 5, the Rebels must stay cool under pressure. Quarterback Bo Wallace has become flustered and thrown a costly interception several times this year.
Wallace isn’t the only one who needs to keep a level head. This will be one of those games where every member of the Ole Miss team must perform as perfectly as humanly possible. With defensive back Trae Elston suspended for the first half of the game due to kicking a down Alabama player, there will be a huge hole in the defense. The Rebels need to quickly figure out how to realign their players to halt Kenny Hill and the Aggie receivers. Ole Miss’ victory against Alabama was a close one; now is not the time for the team to let its guard down.
Mississippi State’s tough schedule will really get hot as Starkville welcomes Auburn this weekend. The Bulldogs do have a home field advantage, but Auburn has seen what they are capable of and aren’t taking any chances. The Tigers aren’t as stellar on the road, as evidenced by their shaky away game against Kansas State. Facing the likes of Dak Prescott and the Bulldog offense will not make Auburn’s road trip any easier. Prescott has been stirring the Heisman rumor mill with his gutsy rushes and accurate arm. Auburn will be on high alert when it comes to the MSU quarterback and will be looking to keep his play time as short as possible.
For the Bulldogs to end Auburn’s perfect season, they have to watch the Auburn offense. Chances are, their plays have not changed much from last season, during which Auburn handed them a difficult loss. If their defense can stay abreast with the Tiger offense, the Bulldogs will be in control and hand the reigns to Prescott. This will be the hardest game for either team this season, and chances are extremely high that the winner will be heading to the SEC Championship.
