Georgia Football’s Nick Chubb Looking to Fill Todd Gurley Void
With the news of Todd Gurley‘s suspension stunning football fans across the nation, the Georgia Bulldogs are having to scramble fast to fill the very large offensive void. As Georgia travels to face the Missouri Tigers this weekend, every player is going to have to step up physically and mentally. Now that the shock of their star player’s suspension is starting to wear off, the Bulldogs will have to bring out another running back to fill the void. With freshman Sony Michel out of commission due to an injured shoulder, that responsibility falls on Nick Chubb.
A true freshman, Chubb has already impressed by running 7.2 yards per carry and has garnered two touchdowns for the Bulldogs. He earned SEC Freshman of the Week after the game against Vanderbilt. It’s very obvious that he has the talent, but is he ready to help lead Georgia against Mizzou this weekend? He is young, but he can handle the pressure. He isn’t afraid of contact and has weathered some pretty rough hits. Chubb will probably have his best game yet; Mizzou shouldn’t think that it has it easy with the absence of Gurley.
Chubb will also be in the unique position to provide morale to his senior teammates. With the return of Malcolm Mitchell, the resurgence of Chris Conley in last week’s game against Vanderbilt and Justin Scott-Wesley coming back off a suspension, Hutson Mason has his pick of receivers. Chubb will have more of a chance to rest and the wide receivers and Mason will be able to take charge of the field. Backup running back Brendan Douglas will also have a chance to rise up in the ranks and relieve Chubb here and there. Ultimately, it will take the entire team to shake off the temporary loss of Gurley, but expect Chubb to lead the way and continue Georgia’s exceptional running game.
