The Clemson Tigers are one of those teams you can’t quite put your finger on. After starting the season 1-2 with losses against two top-15 opponents, the Tigers have won three straight games and have climbed back into the Top 25 for the first time since week four. Clemson will have a lot to prove moving forward and a conference title is likely out of the picture.

Another team that has been hard to judge this season has been the Boston College Eagles. One week they are beating a team like USC and the next they fall to a team like Colorado State at home. The Eagles are 4-2 on the young season and will look to make another statement with a win over Clemson at home.

Clemson suffered a tough loss in week seven as freshman sensation quarterback Deshaun Watson went down with a hand injury that will keep him out for at least a month. Senior quarterback Cole Stoudt began the year as the team’s starting quarterback and it looks like he will finish the year in the same position. Stoudt has passed for 649 yards, one touchdown and two picks with just a 61 percent completion rate — he was thought to be one of the most accurate passers in the conference prior to the year. Watson was completing 67 percent of his passes for 1,176 yards, 12 touchdowns and just two picks. Sophomore wide out Mike Williams leads all receivers with 543 yards and four touchdowns on 22 catches while freshman Artavis Scott has a team-high 28 catches for 371 yards and three scores. Clemson’s rushing attack ranks just 95th in the nation as freshman Adam Choice leads the way with 205 yards and a score. Watson had 147 yards and three scores prior to his injury.

Florida-transfer Tyler Murphy has been the top performer on offense for the Eagles this season although he leads a sub-par passing attack that ranks 123rd in the nation in yards per game. Murphy has passed for just 761 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions while completing just 56 percent of his passes — his accuracy has been waning this season. His favorite target has been senior wide out Josh Bordner who has caught 16 passes for 242 yards and two scores while Dan Crimmins has 17 catches for 156 yards. Murphy does, however, lead the fifth-best rushing offense in the nation with 711 yards and eight touchdowns on over eight yards per carry. Behind Murphy in the run game is freshman running back Jon Hilliman and his 454 yards and seven rushing scores. Ranking third on the team is sophomore Myles Willis‘ 270 yards and a touchdown followed by freshman Sherman Alston‘s 208 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, the Eagles have been pleasantly surprising this season. Boston College ranks near the top of the ACC in many defensive categories including points and yards per game. The Eagles rank 22nd nationally in points allowed per game and an even more impressive eighth in total yards allowed per game. Clemson has been just as solid this season, ranking near the top of the conference in the same categories. The Tigers rank 35th in points allowed and seventh in total yards allowed per contest. The crowd at Alumni Stadium is sure to be electric for this Boston College home game.

Clemson will travel to Boston College to take on the Eagles at 3:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, Oct. 18. The game will be broadcasted on ESPNU.

PREDICTION: Clemson 27, Boston College 23
