The outcome of Week 8 in Pac-12 football has been quite interesting, but not completely surprising. The hopes of being a playoff contender are nearing for some, while becoming more of a pipe dream for others. The latest AP poll numbers reflect hope, perseverance and anxiety of what is yet to come.

While the Trojans were busy beating Colorado, a heated conversation escalated on the sideline involving USC’s AD Pat Haden and former Trojan and TN Titans RB LenDale White. This supposedly led to White’s ejection from the Coliseum. The Trojans recently moved up the AP poll, but who would have noticed with such a distracting weekend headliner?

Despite UCLA Bruins QB Brett Hundley’s continued subpar performance, the Bruins managed to break their two-game losing streak with a dumb-luck win over California. It's safe to say that with the Bruins’ tough schedule ahead and Hundley’s out of character turnovers, their hopes of being a viable playoff contender this season are dismal at best.

The Stanford Cardinal’s dismal performance last Saturday against ASU cost them more than just a loss. It cost them their elite reputation of consistently being a household name in the Top 25 AP poll, which hasn't happened since 2010. Even worse, the Cardinal is now a three-loss team, which shatters any hopes of being a playoff contender.

Despite the uniforms, Oregon’s offense – led by QB Marcus Mariota – continues to fire on all cylinders. Mariota’s passing accuracy and timing to WRs Darren Carrington and Dwayne Stanford shows what they are capable of. In addition, Ducks RB Royce Freeman remains a ground-threat, with 636 yards and 11 TDs so far.

Arizona State football is becoming a household name in the AP poll. This season, Mike Bercovici and the Sun Devils have been among the Top 25 seven out of eight weeks of college football; knocking off Stanford last Saturday places them at No. 14. With only one loss so far, people are starting to take notice as they close in on the playoffs.
