Auburn Tigers Face Tough Remaining Schedule

The Auburn Tigers suffered their first loss of the season nearly two weeks ago. What’s worse, the schedule only appears to get tougher for the Tigers. Auburn has six games remaining on its 2014 slate. Three of them are against ranked opponents, while two others are against teams that have been ranked in the Top 10 nationally at some point this season.

It all starts this week when Auburn hosts the South Carolina Gamecocks, a team that was supposed to contend for the SEC title this season. However, head coach Steve Spurrier has seen his young team struggle in 2014. The talent level is still there, so this is not a game Auburn should take lightly.

On November 1, Auburn travels to Oxford to face the Ole Miss Rebels. That’s the same Ole Miss team that has already beaten the Alabama Crimson Tide in Oxford this season. Auburn then hosts the reeling Texas A&M Aggies before visiting the Georgia Bulldogs, another Top 10 team. The Tigers then host Samford before visiting Tuscaloosa for the annual Iron Bowl matchup against Alabama.

Auburn is one of four SEC West teams ranked in the top five nationally this week. The bad news for the Tigers is that they still have two games remaining against those top five teams, in addition to facing ninth-ranked Georgia. There are bound to be some losses by very good teams down the stretch in the mighty SEC West. Auburn and head coach Gus Malzahn are hoping the experience they gained last year will help them get through a brutal slate of games.
