It’s “GQ vs. GP” as Kliff Kingsbury’s Texas Tech Red Raiders travel to Fort Worth this weekend to take on a Top-10 opponent in Gary Patterson’s Horned Frogs of TCU. It is an interesting in-state matchup of Texas squads with two very different coaches.

Kingsbury’s Red Raiders team has struggled of late, but they snapped a four-game losing streak last week by beating Kansas 31-24. Make no mistake, however, TCU is not Kansas. Sophomore quarterback Davis Webb will have his hands full with a TCU defense that is allowing less than 21 points per game (a total made more impressive considering that Baylor put up 61 points on the Frogs two weeks ago). If Webb is to succeed, his offensive line must maintain its stellar level of play. Texas Tech’s line has only allowed six sacks on the year, and protecting Webb could be the key to a major upset.

While the Red Raiders’ offense has performed well, the defense has performed equally poorly. Ranked 116th in points allowed and 109th in yards allowed, Texas Tech looks to be in for a major fight against TCU’s high-powered offense that is fifth nationally in points per game and ninth in passing yards per game.

But Patterson’s TCU team seems to be clicking on all cylinders. Last week the Frogs were able to rebound after the heartbreaking loss to Baylor by demolishing Oklahoma State 42-9. For Patterson and junior quarterback Trevone Boykin, it was a statement game that kept the Frogs firmly in the hunt for the Big-12 Title and a berth in the College Football Playoff.

As mentioned earlier, TCU’s defense has performed exceptionally well, with the obvious exception of the Baylor game. Take last week’s game against Oklahoma State as an example. The Horned Frogs won the statistical battle by 417 yards, and it will be interesting to see whether or not TCU can maintain that level of success against the high-flying offense of Texas Tech.

In each game this season, TCU has jumped out to at least a 14-0 lead, and if the Frogs are able to do that again this week, the Red Raiders might get run right out of Amon G. Carter Stadium. Expect much more of the same from TCU and a resounding Horned Frogs victory.

Prediction: TCU 49, Texas Tech 17
