Bold Predictions For Arizona State vs. Washington

No. 14-ranked Arizona State travels to Washington to face the Huskies on Saturday night. Washington is coached by Chris Peterson, who is one of the best coaches in the nation. They also have a very talented defense that will square off against Arizona State's 18th-ranked scoring offense. Here are five bold predictions for the contest.

5. Deantre Lewis Will Rush For Over 80 Yards

Lewis had 10 carries for 47 yards against the best defense in the nation last week and is getting more snaps than the start of the year. The talented redshirt senior is ready to finally breakout after a great freshman season and will do so with wet conditions on Saturday. Offensive coordinator Mike Norvell has been airing the ball out with Bercovici, but with Kelly returning, Foster struggling in the run game and the weather, look for Lewis to have at least 80 yards. Lewis was shot in the leg during the offseason after his freshman year and is finally beginning to look like the top recruit he once was.

4. Hau’oli Kikaha Will Break Two Sack Records Saturday

Kikaha currently leads the nation with an incredible 13 sacks through only seven games. The first time he sacks Taylor Kelly Saturday night, he will be the career sack leader at Washington, breaking Te’o-Nesheim’s record of 30. The second time he sacks Kelly, Kikaha will break Jason Chorak’s single-season record of 14.5 sacks from 1996.

3. Mike Bercovici Will Not Play Unless Taylor Kelly Gets Injured

Todd Graham has lost all credibility when it comes to telling the truth to the press about injuries. Like I predicted correctly last week before the Stanford game, Taylor Kelly did not get a single snap at quarterback even though Graham said repeatedly before the game that both Bercovici and Kelly would play to the press. Graham has said he might use both quarterbacks Saturday, but I'm not buying it.

2. Todd Graham Not Preparing For Bad Weather Will Affect Arizona State’s Offense

The weather report for Seattle on Saturday calls for 50 degrees and a 90 percent chance of rain. Both of those elements are very uncommon for dry and sunny Arizona. Most of the Sun Devils' players come from Arizona, Southern California and even Texas, so they will all probably be decked out in winter gear. Todd Graham said, "No one in my building ever says anything about the weather. A guy did one time, and he had to go get counseling." It would be wise of him to have his offensive players practice with a wet ball this week.

1. Arizona State Will Win A Very Close Game

Going on the road to face a Chris Peterson coached team is always a difficult task. Three or four years from now Arizona State will likely head into this game as a heavy underdog. Luckily for ASU, this is year one of the Peterson era. The cold rain and tough Washington defense will make the Sun Devils uncomfortable, but not enough for Washington to win. Washington doesn’t have the man-power on offense to beat ASU.

Arizona State 34, Washington 31 in overtime.
