Victory Against Georgia Could Be Florida Football HC Will Muschamp’s Saving Grace

Will Muschamp Florida Gators Head Coach Georgia Game

At this point, Will Muschamp’s career at Florida is done. Students have taken it upon themselves to put out Craigslist ads for a new coach and could be heard screaming “Fire Muschamp” during their Homecoming loss to Missouri two weeks ago. But there might be a glimmer of hope in Muschamp’s future. Specifically, this weekend in Jacksonville as the Gators take on the Georgia Bulldogs.

Georgia is riding a three-year winning streak against Florida. While the Bulldogs have recently been the better team, they do tend to struggle when it comes to playing the Gators. Why? This SEC rivalry is so intense and anticipated every year, it really can be anyone’s game. Nerves are jittery and the players tend to be more mistake prone, as evidenced in last year’s game when Georgia had six penalties for 45 yards and Florida had had seven for 70.

If Florida wins this matchup, does Muschamp have a chance of keeping his job? Absolutely. Much like Alabama and Auburn’s game of the season is the Iron Bowl, the World’s Largest Cocktail Party is the ultimate rivalry contest for Florida and Georgia.

Muschamp stated that he plans to start true freshman Treon Harris at the quarterback position. With the exception of the Mizzou game, each matchup Harris has participated in has resulted in a win for the Gators. Harris’ performance during the Gators’ game against Tennessee gave them the narrow victory. He certainly doesn’t panic like former starting quarterback Jeff Driskel, who is predictable and has horrendous tunnel vision. Harris is Muschamp’s final trick that he has up his sleeve. If his trump card doesn’t work, it would be a surprise if Muschamp lasts until the end of the season.

For a school to fire a coach midseason would be an act of desperation. But that is exactly how Florida is feeling. Muschamp’s only hope is that Georgia becomes rattled due to the hype of this rivalry. If not, it’s highly likely that he will be hanging up his coaching hat before Thanksgiving.
