Ask and you shall receive. The fans wanted a playoff system, and they got one. It may not be perfect, but it is good enough for now (hopefully). With that said, the first College Football Playoff rankings were just released. For the most part, the committee got the rankings right … sort of.

We will have to wait and see if that is still the case when the final rankings come out. Well, enough beating around the bush, here are the first rankings:

1. Mississippi State
2. Florida State
3. Auburn
4. Ole Miss
5. Oregon
6. Alabama
7. TCU
8. Michigan State
9. Kansas State
10. Notre Dame
11. Georgia
12. Arizona
13. Baylor
14. Arizona State
15. Nebraska
16. Ohio State
17. Utah
18. Oklahoma
19. LSU
20. West Virginia
21. Clemson
22. UCLA
23. East Carolina
24. Duke
25. Louisville

What a surprise, the SEC is heavily favored. Well, when it comes to the top of the rankings. At this rate, it almost seems inevitable that two SEC teams will make the playoff.

Teams like Notre Dame, Georgia, Ohio State and Utah could have made a case for going higher in the standings, but it is what it is.

Although these rankings may favor the SEC schools near the top, as I am sure many people expected, this is only the first edition of the College Football Playoff rankings, and a lot of football still needs to be played. Translation: Just like most first rankings of the season, this one is more about hype than anything, because so much can change.
