The University of Michigan has had a lot of great receivers in their history.

Guys like Braylon Edwards, David Terrell, Anthony Carter and the list goes on and on. Currently, Devin Funchess is the top target for Michigan and has the No. 1 jersey to prove it. Funchess, however, could very well be headed to the NFL after this year and a new receiver will need to step up and be great. That receiver is Amara Darboh.

Darboh is a redshirt sophomore and has already faced some adversity in his young career. He was a four-star recruit from the state of Iowa and started his career at Michigan as a freshman in 2012, playing mostly special teams. Last season he was expected to play a much bigger role in the passing game and was competing for one of the starting receiver spots opposite Jeremy Gallon. He got off to a great start in camp but suffered a season-ending foot injury prior to the season and was forced to redshirt.

This season, expectations weren’t quite as high for Darboh, but he has certainly impressed. Even with the team struggling and the quarterback position far from stable, Darboh has been a bright spot. He continues to improve every week and is coming off the best performance of his career against Indiana. Darboh caught nine passes for 107 yards and a touchdown. He will look to keep the momentum going as the season reaches its final few weeks.

The future of Michigan football is uncertain. We know there will be a new AD and likely a new coach, but beyond that the look of the team is not yet clear. One thing can be counted on, however, and that is the Wolverines have found their next great receiver. Darboh continues to grow every week and will be ready when the time comes for him to step into the No. 1 receiver role.
