Kansas State vs. TCU: Game Preview With TV Schedule

By Connor Muldowney

Just when you think the Kansas State Wildcats are out of harm’s way and on a fast track to an 11-1 season, you take a glance at their schedule and realize they have three road games against ranked conference foes left. Tough road to the playoffs for this team. The TCU Horned Frogs are having a better season than they had even expected, piling up seven wins through their first eight games and sitting in sixth place in the College Football Playoff Rankings.

Kansas State has one of the most underrated dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation under center each week in Jake Waters. When you talk about dual-threats, he rarely comes up in conversations. Waters has been solid this year, passing for 1,878 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions as well as rushing for 404 yards and another seven touchdowns. Charles Jones is the only rusher with more yards than Waters, accounting for just 431 yards and 11 rushing scores. DeMarcus Robinson is the other legitimate rushing threat, racking up 332 yards and four touchdowns. Tyler Lockett and Curry Sexton have been the top receivers for the Wildcats. Lockett leads the team with 682 yards and five touchdowns on 49 catches while Sexton also has 49 receptions for 609 yards and three scores.

The Horned Frogs are lucky enough to be led by a quarterback that is considered one of the best in college football. Trevone Boykin has been a force in the pass game as well as the run game. The junior quarterback has passed for 2,472 yards and 22 touchdowns for the fifth-best passing offense in the country while also rushing for 423 yards and four scores. B.J. Catalon is the only player ahead of Boykin in the run game, accounting for 493 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns. Aaron Green is third on the team with 378 yards and three scores on 8.4 yards per carry. Josh Doctson is Boykin’s favorite target, catching 38 passes for 602 yards and seven scores while Kolby Listenbee is right behind, catching 24 passes for 541 yards and three touchdowns. Deante’ Gray also knows how to reach the end zone, snagging seven touchdown passes of his own.

Defensively, Kansas State has been one of the top teams in the Big 12 this season. The Wildcats rank 12th in scoring defense as well as a just-as-impressive 16th in total yards allowed per contest. The Horned Frogs have not been quite as successful as Kansas State, ranking 49th in total defense, 370 yards allowed per game, as well as 41st in scoring defense — giving up an average of 22.6 points per contest.

Kansas State will travel to TCU to take on the Horned Frogs at 7:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, Nov. 8. The game will be broadcasted on FOX.
