No team can afford a loss this late in the year. That is especially true for teams fighting for a spot in a bowl game, or teams fighting for a spot in the College Football Playoff. As for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Arizona State Sun Devils, they are both fighting for a spot in the playoff, and will meet up this weekend.
After losing to the Florida State Seminoles not too long ago, the Fighting Irish bounced back by knocking off Navy. In the process, QB Everett Golson threw for 315 yards and three touchdowns. However, he also had 33 yards on the ground and three more scores.
Arizona State enters this one just as hot as anyone. The Sun Devils have now won four games in a row. Three of those games were against teams ranked in the top 25 (at the time). Arizona State would need to do quite a bit to make the playoff, but winning out would certainly go a long ways.
If Golson has another six-touchdown performance, Notre Dame is going to be very tough to beat. As good as Arizona State has been lately, the Fighting Irish haven’t been too bad, either. After all, Notre Dame only lost to Florida State by four points on the road — only loss of 2014.
Arizona State certainly gets an advantage as a result of playing at home, but the Fighting Irish are no strangers to playing in tough environments, and truly are one of the best teams in the country. Look for Golson to come up big, and for Notre Dame to keep its playoff hopes alive in this one.
Prediction: Notre Dame 33, Arizona State 27
