The winning streak grows to a whopping 25 games straight as the No. 2 Florida State Seminoles edge past the Virginia Cavaliers with a 34-20 win on homecoming night. Week after week, we experience many different sides of the Seminoles that contribute to their perfect record this season. This time, the hat goes off to the FSU defense which suppressed the Cavaliers’ offensive game, keeping them under 300 yards of production on Saturday.

Seminoles DE Mario Edwards Jr. set the tone by causing Virginia to fumble the ball early in the game, which was recovered on Virginia’s 23-yard line by DT Derrick Mitchell. It is fortunate that the defense were on top of their game because QB Jameis Winston definitely had his share of mistakes. If it wasn’t for their defensive performance, the Seminoles would probably be kissing their winning streak goodbye.

The previous Heisman Trophy winner went for 261 passing yards, resulting in two touchdowns for the Seminoles. However, he also threw two interception, which both materialized into touchdowns for the Cavaliers. On the second one, Winston intended the pass for Nick O’Leary. Instead, it was tipped and caught by one of Virginia’s defensive lineman. Of course, that turnover eventually turned into another touchdown.

Despite how the evening may have started for the undefeated champions, they’ve always managed to dig deep to pull off a win. Sometimes it comes from the offense. Sometimes it derives from the defense. The only thing that matters is, it comes when needed. During the win over Virginia, FSU WR Rashad Greene had 13 catches for 136 yards and a TD. It was a career high. This game will probably be memorable to him, but it is nothing to brag about for the rest of the team.
