Melvin Gordon Breaks FBS Record, Wisconsin Makes Big Statement Against Nebraska

By RantSports Staff

The Big 10 may not be getting a whole lot of love this season when it comes to the College Football Playoff, but the Wisconsin Badgers made a big statement against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, for what it’s worth. Not only did they win the battle, they managed to knock off Nebraska by the score of 59-24.

Is Wisconsin going to make the playoff? Heck no. Maybe if it only had one loss. However, it still has a shot at making the Big 10 title game, and could help the conference not seem so weak. In the eyes of the fans and media, that is.

Having a star player usually helps with that national recognition thing as well, and man do the Badgers have a player who fits that description.

Enter Melvin Gordon.

Gordon is the top rusher in college football. He also managed to have 408 yards and four TDs against the Cornhuskers. Yeah, you read that right — he’s the real deal. He also set the FBS record with his 408 rushing yards. If you missed the game, here is one of his highlights.

For the record, Nebraska was ranked No. 16 in the nation entering the day.

Wisconsin may not have a shot at making the playoff, but it certainly had a great day and made a huge statement with its big win. Although it won’t be playing in the College Football Playoff this year, making the Big 10 title game wouldn’t be a bad consolation prize. Winning that said game would be huge, especially since the Ohio State Buckeyes will more than likely be playing in that contest, and have a decent shot at making the playoff.
