Notre Dame WR Will Fuller Continues To Thrive For Fighting Irish

The Fighting Irish are in the midst of a two-game losing streak and have been struggling with turnovers after a good start to the season. As their dreams of making the College Football Playoff have slipped away, it’s difficult for Notre Dame to find many bright spots regarding the team’s current state. However, dynamic wide receiver Will Fuller certainly falls under that distinction.

Fuller has been instrumental in the success the team has been able to obtain this season. He currently has 13 touchdowns through 10 games, which is tied for first in the entire nation. The sophomore is also on pace to break former Fighting Irish wide receiver Golden Tate’s record of 15 scores in his junior season when he received the Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s top wide receiver. Fuller has also accumulated 61 receptions for 853 yards thus far.

If not for Fuller’s outstanding performance against Northwestern last Saturday, the game might have not been as close as it ended up. He ran circles around the Wildcats’ secondary and scored three touchdowns while also racking up nine catches for 159 yards. Fuller has been the team’s most consistent threat all season, and opposing defenses still struggle to contain him.

In addition, if last year’s No. 1 receiver DaVaris Daniels returns to the team next season following his academic suspension this year, Notre Dame will have the unique combination of two game-breaking receivers. The two players would certainly complement each other well and take a lot of pressure off of the team’s starting quarterback next season.

As for the rest of the 2014 season, it will be intriguing to watch if Fuller can continue his assault of college football defenses and add to his already impressive numbers. He’s still a young player who can improve his all-around game, but the future looks bright for Notre Dame’s rising star.
