Bowl Projections 2014: Predicting the New Year’s Six

Alabama Football — So much can happen now until the bowl games are announced. You didn’t need me to tell you that, though. Although the College Football Playoff will have four very worthy teams, it is looking like one or more also very worthy teams will be left out. Regardless, the New Year’s Six will be represented by a solid bunch. If only all of those teams actually were part of the CFP.

Peach Bowl: Georgia vs. Michigan State

Peach Bowl: Georgia vs. Michigan State

Michigan State — What a matchup this would be. Although it is looking like neither team will be playing in their conference title games, they are still easily two of the best teams in their conferences. Both teams currently have two losses, and both could certainly take out anyone in the country.

Fiesta Bowl: Marshall vs. UCLA

Fiesta Bowl: Marshall vs. UCLA

UCLA — UCLA is red-hot. If it weren’t for two losses, it would likely be playing in the playoff — well, maybe. Its possible opponent, Marshall, has yet to lose a game this year. I really hope the playoff committee doesn’t snub an undefeated team, but it is kind of looking that way.

Orange Bowl: Georgia Tech vs. Mississippi State

Orange Bowl: Georgia Tech vs. Mississippi State

Mississippi State — This one has upset written all over it. If this matchup takes place, that is. Mississippi State absolutely deserves a spot in the playoff, but who knows if the committee will give it a spot if it doesn’t win the SEC. A disappointed Bulldogs team could be a plus for Georgia Tech.

Cotton Bowl: TCU vs. Ohio State

Cotton Bowl: TCU vs. Ohio State

Ohio State — J.T. Barrett and Trevone Boykin playing on the same football field would be amazing. Both teams currently have one loss, and still have a chance to make the playoff.

Rose Bowl: Alabama vs. Oregon

Oregon — Who knows who will actually make the playoff and which seeds the four teams who do make the playoff will receive. Regardless, this one has national championship written all over it. The only problem is it is the game before the national championship.

Sugar Bowl: Florida State vs. Baylor

Sugar Bowl: Florida State vs. Baylor

Baylor — Florida State deserves the No. 1 seed if it goes undefeated, but that may not happen. No matter what the case, the Seminoles couldn’t afford to get behind a Bryce Petty-led team.

Championship: Florida State vs. Alabama

Championship: Florida State vs. Alabama

Alabama — Could you imagine how much hype this one would get? Jameis Winston and the undefeated Florida State Seminoles going up against a Nick Saban-coached Alabama Crimson Tide team. Yeah, the ratings on this game would be crazy.
