The SEC/ACC rivalry weekend kicks off with the 23rd ranked Clemson Tigers taking on the old ball coach Steve Spurrier and the South Carolina Gamecocks. Clemson is playing to stay alive for the Orange Bowl, while South Carolina is playing for whatever pride is leftover for the SEC East. South Carolina has owned Dabo Swinney and the Tigers, winning 5 straight head-to-heads. But will Saturday be different? Will the Gamecocks see too much orange?

Mike Williams is Clemson’s best deep-threat, and there is no better way to stick it to your rival than to beat them with the bomb. Williams currently averages a freakish 19.1 yards per catch, and this Sophomore could settle into his own against a South Carolina secondary that’s been torched before (recall the 52-28 loss to Texas A&M in the Gamecocks’ opener).

If a team has anything resembling an offense, South Carolina will help it flourish. The Gamecocks have given up 52, 35, 45, 42, and 45 to Texas A&M, Georgia, Kentucky, Auburn, and Tennessee, respectively. When Vegas comes out with their over/under, take the over on this one.

Although the Gamecocks' defense appears to have no idea how pass coverage works, their offense can put up points. Not including FCS opponents, South Carolina’s average game score is 35-34 (opponents averaging one more point per game). Expect this trend to be validated, and expect a shoot-out that is close in the end.

Clemson has a notoriously tough time with teams that run the ball well, losing lopsidedly to Georgia Tech (28-6) and Georgia (45-21). Spurrier should get his feature back a ton of carries, and if Davis rushes for at least 112 yards, he’ll reach 1000 for the second straight year.

If you’re a Clemson student who will be at the game Saturday, get ready to rush the field. You’re tired of hearing about the alleged “SEC bias” and about how weak the ACC is as a conference. Ammon Lakip will give you a chance to express yourself when he nails the game winning field goal from the right hash as time expires.
