This past Sunday, Nebraska parted ways with Bo Pelini after another 9-3 regular season. After seven seasons, Pelini went 67-27, but he was never able to get Nebraska past the Big Ten Championship game. With Pelini now out, who are some good candidates to take over in Lincoln? Here are five guys I think would be excellent fits.

5. Matt Wells (Utah State)

Matt Wells replaced Gary Andersen at Utah State and has done an excellent job. Over two seasons, Wells has gone 18-9, winning nine games in 2014 with four different quarterbacks. Andersen's move to Wisconsin turned out well.

A former NFL coordinator and the current head coach at Air Force, Troy Calhoun's triple-option attack would bring Nebraska back to their glory days in the 1980s and the 1990s. Calhoun's team went 9-3 this season, and he has led Air Force to seven bowl games in the last eight seasons.

3. Jim McElwain

A former assistant under Nick Saban, Jim McElwain has slowly turned around the Colorado State program. McElwain's Rams are 18-9 in the past two seasons, and he is becoming a leading candidate for other prominent positions. McElwain will also be no stranger to the Big Ten as he was an assistant at Michigan State during the 2000s.

2. Craig Bohl

Wyoming's Craig Bohl was a longtime assistant for Nebraska and a standout defensive back during his time in Lincoln. Since then, all Bohl did was turn North Dakota State into an FCS powerhouse, winning three national titles. In his first season at Wyoming, Bohl went 4-8, but that shouldn't sway any program from hiring him, especially Nebraska.

A former Nebraska standout, Scott Frost is now in Oregon directing one of the country's most potent offenses. The Ducks have ranked in the top 25 in rushing in each of the past four seasons while ranking better than fourth in the nation in scoring in each of those years. It also doesn't hurt to quarterback under legendary Cornhuskers coach Tom Osborne.
