Once known as one of the brightest minds in all of college football, Lane Kiffin‘s career has had a bunch of twists and turns. However, after having a successful year with arguably the best team in the country, Kiffin is back in action and some teams around the country will flock at the opportunity to hire him. One of those teams should be Nebraska, who recently fired Bo Pelini despite having a 66-27 record with him at the helm.

After going 7-6 in his first year as a head coach at Tennessee, Kiffin moved on to be the head coach of USC and that was a complete trainwreck. Despite having a stacked roster including Matt Barkley, Marqise Lee and T.J. McDonald, Kiffin flopped big time. Because of how bad he was with such a good roster, many considered Kiffin to be irrelevant in the college football coaching carousel. Instead, Alabama gave him a call and the rest is history.

Since coming to Alabama, many people have ridiculed Kiffin, saying the only reason for his success is because of the team he is coaching. While it is true he’s coaching a team full of four- and five-star recruits, it should be said just how productive his offense has been in 2014.

Going into the year, the Crimson Tide had two gifted players in Amari Cooper and T.J. Yeldon. However, with A.J. McCarron going to the NFL, the Tide were bringing in a new quarterback and many thought that would be a problem. Instead, Blake Sims has taken off, thus proving even further just how good of a job Kiffin has done.

Nebraska athletic director Shawn Eichorst said in a press conference that Pelini couldn’t win the big game, and that was the deciding factor of why he was fired. While Kiffin has made a huge gaffe in the past, he has shown this year that he still is one of, if not the brightest mind in all of college football.

With Tommy Armstrong Jr. and Imani Cross likely coming back in 2015, Kiffin will have dynamic weapons to work with. It will be a crazy one, but Nebraska needs to consider Kiffin for their head coaching vacancy.
