Nebraska football is trying to regroup following the firing of Bo Pelini. Many players, current and former, are not happy with the school’s decision to go in a different direction. On one hand you can’t blame them for being upset. On the other hand, Pelini did fail to live up to the high standards set by Tom Osborne in the 1980s and 90s.

Regardless of where you stand on the Pelini firing, the reality is still a coach-less Nebraska team looking for its next head honcho. That brings us to the college football rumor the day: Bret Bielema possibly leaving Arkansas for Nebraska.

However, it didn’t take long for the rumor to be shot down. That is, as long as you believe Bielema.

There’s really no reason not to believe him. Why would he leave Arkansas after just two seasons and head back to the Big Ten? Why would he essentially take a step back?

Bielema left a very nice job at Wisconsin to head to the toughest NCAAF conference in America. Heading back to the weak Big Ten to a team that’s in worse shape than Wisconsin, just doesn’t add up. Sure, Nebraska should want Bielema to head up its football program. Why wouldn’t they want him? But it’s just not realistic.

With the Hogs just now starting to turn things around, there’s so much left for Bielema to accomplish, and it would be flat out silly to give up on all the strides the program has made in recent weeks.
